Picking a music release date!

Picking a music release date!

You’ve worked hard on that new track and it’s an absolute banger! But now what do you do with it? Unreleased music is unheard music, so it’s time to share it with the world. But hold on, don’t hit that button just yet! It’s time we had the talk….

That’s right… The dreaded release date talk!

Now we know what you’re thinking. But it’s clear to us that you’ve reached the stage of artistry where we need to have this conversation. You can handle it! We promise! Don’t worry though, this ones a little less “The birds and the bees” and a little more “promotion and release”.

Setting your release date can be daunting. There’s a lot of pressure, knowing that selecting the right date to release your music can make all the difference in maximising your reach to new audiences. It would be so much easier if google would just tell us exactly when to release it… But we’re here to tell you kid, there is no fixed “best music release date”. It’s all about how you utilise the time before and after the release.

The first step here is to start with some goals. Here are a couple of points you should consider:

  • How are people going to find out about your new release?
  • How can this release attract you new listeners?
  • Does this single build on your artist image/story?
  • How can you use this to engage with your current audience?
  • How is this song going to help you move forward in your career?

In setting these goals, keep them realistic and achievable. There is no point in setting yourself a goal of 1,000,000 streams in the first week, if your last release achieved 1,000. It’s probably not gonna happen!

We’re sure you’ve guessed what’s next: you’ll need to think about how to spread the word of your new music release. Social media, press releases, live shows, to name just a few. Consider the tools you have available to you, or that can be utilised through the services of a music promotion/distribution service.

You’ll also need to plan where to send your music out to. Now this bit can be a little tricky. There are a lot of digital service providers out there, such as Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud. It can be hard to know where music should go and you’ll find that some have a mountain of regulations about uploads. Not to worry though, this is exactly what we, at Identity Music, specialise in. We are a digital music distribution platform who have established partnerships with over 40 music streaming hosts (Check out our distribution partners here).

Are you looking to get your music out there? With Identity Music you can get your music all over the globe in order to gain the maximum exposure. By using our distribution and music promotion services, you’ll be able to take control while watching your music reach new heights.

We can cut through all the red tape to get your music distributed in the most effective way possible, with no upfront fees, helping you earn money through streaming, downloading, global music publishing revenue, sync licensing and much more!
